OVERLAND PARK- Eye doctors are warning about the dangers of using crazy contact lenses this Halloween.

Dr. Stephen Nichols with the Kansas City Eye Clinic in Overland Park says while the cat-eye lenses or the scary demon eyes might look cool, but they could be very dangerous.

“The main safety issue is how the lenses stay on your eyes. It can lead to all kinds of problems and some of them very traumatic to the eye,” says Dr. Nichols.

He says the only truly safe contacts are ones that are fit by a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology warns that the lenses can cause cuts and open sores in your eyes and potentially blinding bacterial infections and they’re also illegal. The FDA banned cosmetic contact lenses back in 2005.
